tinkers and keys

Postby Zack on Mon Aug 09, 2004 12:03 am

In tinkering, how do you copy keys? I want to copy my house keys for my new character. I used tinker tools on all four materials you can tinker with but none of them brings up keys in the menu. Is there a special tool you have to use? I was also wondering how to get keys off of a keyring.

Thanks

Buy blank keys from the provisioner shop. They sell 2 of each style. (So if you want 4 that look the same for easier identification later, go to another provisioner, or wait for that one to restock).

Double click and target your keyring to remove the keys.

Use tinker tools on blank key, and target the key you want to copy.

Double click new key to name it.

Double click keyring and target keys you want back on your keyring.

Voila!

:O)

Not sure if it is in the menu anymore (since I just buy them, its easier), but I think it used to be that you could tinker on ingots and it might be in the "misc" menu.

From a quick peek at the manual it looks like you should find keys under the misc section of the crafting gump.

As to how to copy a key, double click on the blank and then target the key you wish to make a copy of.

To remove keys from a keyring double click the keyring and target itself, this will give you a backpack full of keys that used to be on the ring, oh joy.

You can name a key by double clicking it and targetting itself, this is real handy if at some point you want to empty a keyring to dupe a key, there isn't much less fun than having a backpack with 16 unnamed mystery keys and trying to figure out which one it is you want *speaks from experience*.

thanks all they changed tinkering so that they no longer have menus to choose from, so I'm guessing that you can't make them.

Thanks again

Ahh well, it's either use tinker tools on blank key, or double click the blank key. Been a long time since I did that. Try both! :O)

"They" did not change the gump. The keys are found in the misc menu. The problem is that you don't have enough ingots or enough skill.
