Microsoft outdoes itself - Bloatware

Windows XP Service Pack 2 was recently delayed until next month. The part that I found most interesting, though, is that, according to this article, the patch is an amazing 264 gigabytes.

Actually, I'm sure that's a typo, but I still found it amusing. You can also purchase a CD with the patch on it as opposed to downloading. At 264GB, that would require 377 standard 700M CDs. Even if they would issue that patch on DVD, it would still take 56 discs.

Wow, nice typo there by the journalist. The service pack is actually only 200 or so odd Mbytes, including debugging features, which I don't think will be included in the final release in August.

200M is still an amazingly huge patch. That's essentially enough for a whole new operating system. What all does it do?

It allows for the new wave of hackers to have something interesting to hack at. Since their brethren have had soo much fun so far, Microshaft decided they needed to add new stuff for the new hackers graduating kindergarten. They truely are a company that cares. We just haven't figured out if it's the money, or the fact that they screw the public every chance they get that they care the most about.
