Chapter 13

Rachel Atei had been dreaming. She was asleep, on her bed, in her room, in her home. In her dream, she felt the loving kiss of her husband and his farewell. Pau was nearby, the other children were safe in Yew and she would soon be having a baby. She dreamed of the childbirth, of nursing her daughter, of the look in Amon's eyes when he held his daughter, Azrea. She smiled in her sleep and for a time, all was peaceful.

The first alarm went off in her brain far too late for her to do anything. Suddenly the peace and happiness of her dreams was shattered. She tried to scream, to move, to contact Amon, but she could not. Strong arms held her down and a cloth was jammed into her mouth. The men she glimpsed could not really be there, in her home. The feeling of being lifted, taken from her family and the safety of her home could not be real.

She had to wake up, to end this madness, but she was powerless against the soaked rag stuffed into her mouth. The potion on that rag kept her floating in this nightmare, and also kept her considerable magic at bay. She knew that if she could just wake up, she would be all right, her baby would be all right. She knew it, but could not.

In her dreams, Rachel wept at her own inability to stop what was happening. She wept for the daughter she could feel kicking and moving inside of her, the life there that would very soon be born. She wept that she could not scream, could not contact Amon, could not wake up. She wept, and no one heard.

Chapter 14

Guildmaster Connor returned to Trinsic with no intention of staying. As soon as he arrived he messaged Basil, another apprentice in Britain. A short time later a blue gate opened in Connor's private chambers, and out stepped the younger mage.

Connor wasted no time in bringing his apprentice up to speed on the negotiations. "Be firm, Basil. We will not give up Trinsic to these marauders. The Queen does not wish a fight, but is willing to go to war if a peaceful solution cannot be found."

"I understand, Guildmaster," replied Basil as he took up his staff. The two mages headed downstairs to the conference room.

Without preamble, Connor informed the seated Praets that he had to leave. "Other Realm business demands my attention, Admiral. Basil will complete the negotiations in my steed." His voice carried authority and offered no room for discussion or debate. He quickly turned and exited the room, and then opened a gate to Queen Lissar's castle. A moment later, he was gone.

Settling himself in a chair directly across the too-large conference table from the Admiral, Basil began: "Now Swift, regarding your illegal presence in Trinsic…"

Atei......I've been waiting for an update as well. Good going on the story writing.
I could never have the imagination to write stories as such. Although in high school I used to write stories all the time. In fact, my "creative writing" teacher gave me an B- on a short story(supposed to be 10 pages) because it was too long(approx 30 pages) and she said it was too good for me to have written it, I must have copied from somewhere but she gave me the benefit of the doubt and gave me the B-.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Writing is my first love, and it is nice to know that it is appreciated.
