An encounter with the Spirit of Gizash

(An excerpt from Edison's journal)

As Nujel'm is usually a quiet town Cloudchaser, Angelica and myself were quite surprised when a contingent of Shadow warriors and Headhunters sprung out of hiding and attacked as we were chatting and planning a hunt for treasures. Fortunately thier numbers were not great and were dispatched without much difficulty, though we were not quick enough to prevent serious bodily harm to several of the staff of the Atei residence across the way.

In examining the bodies for clues as to the reason for the assault, 2 notes were found:

Note 1:
Preparations are complete. The spirit flies free. Gather at the pits of fire for the ritual. Round up all that you can! We must not fail this time!

Note2:
The time is here.
Head for the pits of fire
Find the shrine and travel the gate located there

We headed off to Britain bank to gather reinforcements and send out messages to the warriors of the land, explaining that we would be headed to the temple on Fire Island, the contents of the 2 notes and a request for aid, if they were available.

A sizable group gathered, supplies were procured and logistics settled and we headed off to the Island, travelling slowly to the temple in case of ambush.

The temple proved to be guarded by various Shadow warriors, mages, rouges, headhunters, a couple Dark Monk's and Dark Summoner's.

For a while The assault went well clearing about half the shrine and surrounding area vanquishing many foes with not one fallen comrade on our side, and then, disaster, we seemed to lose our focus and our lines spread too thin casualties mounted, in the end our deaths numbered 3 by the time the shrine was secured.

In hindsight, it may have been best if we had retired for the day to gather our wits and form a plan ...

The assault on the staging area of the ceremony is probably best described as that of an unruly mob, there was much chaos my memory seems clouded, all that remains clear is that many friends fell and that a physical manifestation of what we believe to have been the spirit of Gizash was destroyed.

And now I shall retire for the night, I find my head is aching.
