A deer mask as loot... a bug?

Postby Hale on Mon Mar 29, 2004 6:46 pm

I happened to be in the bottom of Deceit during a respawn earlier today, when something spawned on me that I thought was a slime, but what later turned out to be a doppleganger. Me and my dragon took it down pretty fast, so it didn't have time to change shape.

I then went over to check the loot on it, and was quite surprised to find a deer mask and a druid staff on it. I thought that the masks can only be found at the AG. My first thought was that someone had died there and lost their staff and mask, but the items were not .owned, and the druid staff was brown (looked like a gnarled), not green like they usually are. Besides, I had just seen the creature spawn, so there's no way it could have looted anyone.

So I'm pretty sure this is a bug, resulting propably from me killing the dopple before it could change shape. Or are dopples meant to drop masks? And if it's a bug, should I just trash the mask?

Sounds like a bug to me. Especially since those masks cost so many tickets, they wouldnt become a drop. But I'd hang onto the mask until I heard from staff about it.

Is it a "mask claim deed" or a "deer mask" looking like a set of antlers and a bit of snit attatched?

It's a deer mask... Not a deed or anything, but a wearable mask

And a brown druid staff? No way I would trash those, they sound pretty special. :D

Well, that is rather strange... Especially the brown druid staff. Dopplegangers only copy other players, and items that that player has, and I don't know if I've seen a brown druid staff... I'm not sure if it would work anyway, though, since dopplegangers tend to make 'cheap' copies of items (it may, though.) The mask should be OK, though.

I guess I'd just have to say, 'congratulations on your find' :)

is it possible that he killed it as it changed shape, but before it newbiefied those items (or recolored the staff)?

This exact same thing happened to me Drocket, about 1 and a half years ago. I think it might have also been a dopple. Who knows, my memory is shot from studying :(

It's happened to me too (probably about 5-6 months ago). I thought it rather strange that someone had forgotten to .own his/her deer mask but never really bothered to search for an owner. I guess now I know I didn't really have to.
