Joe's Misadventure

Postby Lyl on Sat Feb 01, 2003 4:47 am

Jiroc and Jim Greenfire found a handful of maps in Wind on sunday (the days just fly by), and asked me to use my cartography and dig them. Among the dusty papers was a map that once belonged to Joe, and Joe's journal. Very suspicious, I thumbed through Joe's notes:

"I've been here for 2 days now. Not sure how I got here to be sure.
My friends and I had been out treasure hunting when we were jumped by a band of pirate.
Not long after which I just appeared here in this infernal place. I just don't know what I am gonna"

... the log ends abrubtly, and I can imagine a few things in Wind that would prompt that too.
Poor Joe, but where did his map lead?

Side note: { Sounded like a quest to me, and a dangerous one. On one hand everyone should be welcome on quests, but on the other, did the map belong to Jiroc and Jim? I suggested Jiroc invite more people, so Rocks and his dragon joined in. Sadly, Jim had to leave but going out with three greats seemed like fun.}

Should have known pirates.
I opened my book and then opened a gate to Beach Head Island, where the map obviously lead. One step through the gate I saw why it is often wise to sail to your destination. Pirates of all ranks and Sisters covered the landscape! I pretended like I had forgotten a cauldron boiling on Buc's Den and slipped back through the gate to make better plan. I guess Jiroc, Rocks and their dragons didn't catch on, so after ran back with Gragus to join the fight.

The first skirmish continued without rest long past my mana reserves. And even longer past that already long time, but the dragons fought bravely to protect us. Rocks and his dragon fell, but eventually we found ourselves surrounded by pirates of the corpse type, rather than the casting/weapon wielding type.

It was pretty fun I gotta say, so we finished clearing the island of marksmen, Sisters, Captains and plain old hiding cowards. Dragons sure know how to play with their food is all I'm saying. Just feed them outdoors since they don't know what cleaning up means.

Then it was time for the map...oh dear, right in the jungle. Nothing to do about that though, we popped the chest. I saw an Ancient dragon and then some extra relatively inconsequencial monsters like a daemon lt. Jiroc and his dragon stood against the ancient and I moved to heal him since I couldn't see through the trees. Then I passed out as dragon breath so often makes me do.

side note:{ I just got a faster computer, so I hope I wont crash in battle anymore, or at least less often. Also, now I know how people could run as fast on foot as I did on horseback. I must run twice as fast now that I'm comfortably over the uo minimum specs.}

When I came to I was deathly cold as if all the warmth of life had left my body. Or warmth and life had left with my body more like. Jiroc and our two dragons were also lying on the ground without movement.

Rocks was still alive and had escaped the area though, so there was still hope. He came with another attack on the ancient, but it was too hard to manuever in the jungle. I saw the yard long claws, sharp as arrows, pin Rocks to the trees and slash his flesh away in a few deft movements.

Well, we all had died at that point. Various groups of people came to our aid but I missed most of the action. Eventually we were ressed, and the treasure looted (shirt of wrestling or some such was in the chest.) It was good fun though, I'm just sorry I crashed and missed the battle.
