History of a Forgotten Warrior

Postby Henry Longshanks on Wed Jul 07, 2004 3:52 am

Henry Longshanks wondered how long it had been since he had left the lands of Arcodia. So long he had been adrift, losing all track of time. He thought about his past while adrift, the reasons why he had left his home in Arcodia. His parents had been murdered along with his younger sister Karen by a band of goblins while he was away on a hunting trip with his Uncle Bartholomew. He was only fifteen at the time of their murder. When he returned home and found their bodies littered across the ground and his home burned down, he lost control of his emotions. Not even his Uncle Bart could stop him from taking revenge for his family. Henry took up his father's bow from the corpse and took after the band of goblins.

A week later he returned to the ruined site of where his home used to be, beaten and bloodied, but with a sense of satisfaction. He had single handedly slain every last goblin for their treachorous act. After returning home to bury his dead parents and sister he decided it would be best to stay with his Uncle Bart until he was ready to live a life of his own.

For five years he trained with his uncle on many aspects of life. His uncle taught him how to be even better with the bow; also when to fight and when to run. Henry learned that he had to be quick if he wanted to live in this world, in both physical and mental aspects. After the five years of hard training, Henry was finally ready to begin a life of his own. He decided the best place to begin this new life was Britain. There he met Vulgard Saxon, a peasant who had dreams of greatness.

Over the next fifteen years, Henry learned what it was like in the world beyond his uncle's cottage. He met many good people, but he also met many evil people. In those fifteen years, Henry followed Vulgard no matter what. Life was never consistant with Vulgard, always switching alliegences to whomever was at that time strongest. Vulgard tried many times to create a guild that would become powerful, but each time all that he ever achieved was another fall from grace.

After a few years of accompaning Vulgard, a girl who had a striking resemblence to his dead sister Karen joined this band of petty warriors. Her name was Brigette Vaughn. She was of the shy and quiet sort of people. Henry saw so much of his sister in Brigette that he even started to treat her as his younger sister. Whatever it was she needed, he would make sure that she got it. Vulgard and some of the other's always teased him about this, they would never understand what it was like for him.

The years passed, seasons came and went, and Henry aged quickly. This life that he was leading, following a person who only sought power for himself, started to bear down on him. He had battled many people who he did not want to battle, killed people who had just as much reason to live as he.

Finally, after fifteen years, it grew too much for him. Brigette was lost to him, too trusting of Vulgard. Henry started to ask himself, "Why do I stay with this selfish fool. If I continue, I know it will be the end of me." And it almost was.

Vulgard got word of Henry's distrust of him and sent five of his most skilled assassin's. Henry barely made it out of the ambush alive. He had only survived because of his Uncle Bart's teachings and his quick thinking.

The five assassin's darted between trees seeking Henry's lakeside retreat. They had decided to strike at midnight. Two would sneak up to the roof of the retreat and bust through Henry's bedroom window while the other three broke in through the front door. They expected to take Henry's life while he was asleep. Unfortunately for them, Henry was still awake, tightening the string of his bow. When the first assassin broke through the window, Henry quickly darted over to his arrows and planted one into the first assassin's neck just before he reached him. The second assassin came at him with a dagger and got a strong blow off on Henry before he could dodge. But Henry had many battle scars and shrugged this blow off like it was merely a scratch. The assassin came at him again, but this time he was ready. As the assassin was just about to stab Henry through the heart with his knife, Henry grabbed the assassin's wrist and planted the knife into the assassin's forehead. Just then the last three assassins busted through Henry's bedroom door. Henry quickly grabbed a broadsword he found on the first assassin's corpse. In the next few minutes, Henry battled desperately with his would-be assassin's, exchanging and taking many blows. But in the end, all five assassin's were dead and Henry was severely wounded. Henry limped out to his horse and rode to a healer friend of his whom he could trust.

After a few days rest, Henry decided that he would go back to his lakeside retreat and gather the heads of his would-be assassins. After gathering their heads into a bag, he rode to Vulgard's home. There he threw the heads at Vulgard's feet and said, "If thou want me gone, then gone I shalt be. But know this, you shall be forever cursed for this. I shall let the whole land know thee are not to be trusted, not even by thine own friends." Henry then road home, gathered his most precious belongings, and bought a large skiff.

And so it comes to that he is drifting in the vast sea with no friends and no enemys. Henry drifts at sea for what seems to him like ages. Then one day (which is around a year from his departure from Arcodia) he spots land. He sails his skiff to this land so far away from his home and hopes that he can begin a new life. A life in which he follows no man. A life in which he hopes to live in peace. If this life of his shall be accomplished, only time will tell...
