So I can't run UO in full screen mode. When I toggle the display to full screen, not only does it not work, it turns the game window completely grey. I know there's probably a bazillion reasons why this is happening so I'm asking for suggestions.

I'm running the UO Gold client on Windows XP on virtual machine (Parallels Desktop) on my iMac. Yes, I know it's a miracle that I can get a 14 year old game to run at all this way. I guess what I'm asking is if I wasn't running Windows on a virtual machine and this was actually a PC and full screen didn't work, what would be the usual fix?

Usual fix would be to update the graphics drivers.

It works fine in windowed mode?

I know I had that issue at some point in the distant past, you could try deleting your "ultimaonline/desktop/accountname/world of dreams" folder, that used to be a kinda generic "I have no idea whats wrong lets try this" fix that would work more often than not.

Do you have 'enable 3D acceleration' checked in the Parallels settings?

Where do I change that? I've looked under "Preferences" and under "Configure" and I don't seem to get that option. I have Parallels 6, by the way,

At Michella's suggestion I adjusted my Mac's resolution to 1024 x 768 and that helped somewhat. The UO window is bigger now but it's still not full screen. I guess that's better than nothing.

I'm not familiar with Parallels. They have a pdf you can look at to find out how to change that.

I am also having the grey screen issue now. I checked the GDF button (I think that's right) and now every time I open I get the grey screen and I can't do anything except close the client. I uninstalled and re-installed UO Gold (thinking that would reset everything, nope) and even downloaded the WOD files again. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. Any ideas? I can't even log in right now.

So I did a complete uninstall and re-install and now it's working again. Phew!
