Ores hides and logs?

Just wondering other than asthetics are there any statistical benefits to the different resources types?

For making blank scrolls, each kind of hide has different chance of failure, and the ones with lowest chance of failure take the most time.
I'm familiar with the acacia. I know how immortality is achieved.
